I enjoyed learning about the saboteurs and SAGE and how they represent different parts of the brain. The saboteurs are tied to the survival brain, while SAGE reflects positive intelligence. The TED Talk explained how both affect our inner voice, focus, and emotions. Even successful people can struggle with saboteurs, which is why learning to recognize and catch them is important. Strengthening SAGE allows us to reframe challenges and turn setbacks into opportunities with a more positive mindset.
I found this module to be more enjoyable and impactful than several others. The mind is an incredibly powerful tool, and our thoughts often determine whether we succeed or fail. Mental fortitude, positive reinforcement, and belief in ourselves or in a cause all begin with conscious thought. Yet, how often do we lie to ourselves about who we are, what we believe, and what we are capable of, only to end up behaving in ways that reflect those false beliefs?
One part I particularly enjoyed was the section on the ten saboteurs. Each saboteur has unique traits and influences, and understanding their differences helps us see how they can control and limit us if left unchecked. What stood out to me most was the concept of recognizing these intrusive thoughts for what they are and learning not to let them define us. By finding our “sage” that calmer, wiser voice within can quiet the negativity, overcome self-sabotage, and begin to reshape our thinking, and assist us in becoming healthier and more productive.
I agree with you. It really stood out to me how powerful our thoughts are and how easily we can limit ourselves by believing things that aren’t true. Learning about the different saboteurs made it easier to recognize those negative thoughts instead of letting them take over. I also like the idea of finding the “sage” voice, since it gives us a way to calm our minds and respond in a healthier, more productive way.
I found this lecture interesting in that i definitely have different saboteurs in my mind, and understanding how they work and make me think is an exercise that I wish I had known. Everyone has inner voices that try to control their thoughts and actions but the SAGE was something that i had not heard of before and hopefully with some practice can be something I put into use on a regular basis.
I enjoyed learning about the saboteurs and SAGE. The saboteurs are the survival brain and SAGE is the positive intelligence brain. In the TED Talks video, he discussed three parts of each: the voice, focus and emotions involved in each. To feel consistently happier, you need to learn to strengthen your SAGE and weaken the saboteurs. People can have a happy childhood and be successful and still experience the saboteurs and people have to learn acknowledge how they really feel inside. Before you can weaken the saboteurs, you have to catch them in your mind. Once you catch it let it go. On the other hand, with the SAGE response, every outcome or circumstance can be turned into an opportunity. Every failure can be turned into an opportunity with the right mindset.
Hey everyone,
As humans, we experience a wide range of emotions every day. These emotions can be compelling and drive us towards positive or negative outcomes, depending on how we handle them. That is why it is essential to recognize the power of our emotions and learn to use them to our advantage.
From my personal experience, practicing mindfulness and self-awareness has helped me to understand my emotions better and positively use them. By being aware of my feelings and thoughts, I can manage them in a way that benefits me and those around me.
Emotions do hold significant power and I agree it is important to learn to use them to our advantage. The ability to understand emotions helps us to understand what we’re feeling and why and how it can help or hurt what we are trying to do. Mindfulness and self-awareness at their highest level may also help to predict feelings in advance to better manage them.
Emotions can be many people’s primary driver for their actions. Being able to recognize and identify what emotion you’re having helps with the E.Q. But taking it to the next step and realizing if our thoughts that are tied with that emotion are a saboteur is a bit of a next step, and figuring out if you’re lying or robbing yourself of your potential is a next level of discernment.
I found the saboteurs very interesting, I’ve known these main characteristics (saboteurs) about myself for a while, but this lesson and TedTalk gave a whole different framing and understanding about how I view and interact in the world. The quiz results seem very accurate and will be helpful when addressing my saboteurs in the future and trying to shift to SAGE. I think this will improve my inner monologue and create some positive change in my life and at work.
That’s great to hear! I agree. It’s always beneficial to have a better understanding of our inner saboteurs and how they affect us. I’m glad that the quiz results seem accurate and that you found the lesson and TedTalk helpful in shifting towards a SAGE perspective. It’s wonderful that you’re motivated to make positive changes in your life and work. Best of luck on your journey towards self-improvement!
